[EME-net] 2m&70cm cw eme contest report Od: Chris SP7DCS [+ do adresáře] Předmět: [EME-net] 2m&70cm cw eme contest report Datum: Mon, 16 Oct 2006 23:02:58 +0200 Komu: EME-net@yahoogroups.com [+] Hello ! After very nice cw random activity in ARI contest in September and during last weekend I expected a lot of us on CW in ARRL. Oh, I could not be more wrong:( Conditions at Sathurday were the worse I have seen with my current array (13 months). All signals were just weak. Even stations with X pols were much weeker then expected. Mr Faraday was not cooperative at all - to be honest I could not hear my own echo most of the time. During the moments I can hear it also much weaker then usual. WX also did not cooperate - we had small rain all night, so array and open wire feed system was wet. I also could not calibrate my rotor before the contest as I could not see moon, so I realize it was possible that I had tracking problem. Even all these problems and low activity I ended first pass with 32 cw qsos on 2m. From time to time I checked 70cm, but I also found signals weak and was not able to make any qso first night. Second pass overall conditions were much better, but Mr Faraday was still not cooperative most of time. At least X pol stations was at their usual strenght. But was was dissapointing there was almost nobody on the band. After working only IK3MAC during 2 hours I decided to switch to 70cm. And it was the best decision! Signals were much stronger and I could easily work HB9Q and OH2PO during the short time:) I switched back to 2m, but there was almost no one to work with,so I turned to 70cm and easily worked Jan DL9KR. 2m CW band was so dead that I decided to go sleep for some hours before. Activity during NA window also was very low, so I made only 7 qsos that pass. Same as first day, I had to go QRT on 2m about 2 hours before moon-set due to trees and buildings on the way between antenna and moon I have on weekends with so high declination. But I turned 70cm rig again and I heard NC1I. Signals was down at the moment, so I had to wait some time until condx get better. Finally I managed to work NC1I for the end of first weekend. My complete log - all cw random unassisted: 144MHz - 39qso - 16x8el H-pol Yagi GS35b FHX35 Winrad 14.10.2006 -first pass RN6BN G4DHF IK2DDR JH5FOQ SV1BTR IK1FJI SM5CUI OH6CH JH2COZ 7K3LGC JH0WJF RA6DA VE1ZJ# S54T F3VS EA3DXU OK1MS YO2AMU SM7GVF PA3CWN LZ2US PA3CMC RU1AA K9MRI K5GW DK3EE I3EVK K9DX F1FLA EA2LU DK3BU SM2CEW 14/15.06.2006 -second pass IK3MAC RA3AQ YU1CF DL5MAE PA3CWI I2RV G3ZIG HRD both passes: W3SZ, WA8CLT, YO9FRJ, K7XQ? and some others 432MHz - 4qso - 4x25el H-pol Yagi 200W at shack, FHX35 Winrad 14/15.10.2006 - second pass HB9Q# OH2PO# DL9KR NC1I #4 HRD both passes: DF3RU, SV1BTR, SP6JLW, YO9FRJ To sum up, my 2m result of only 39 qsos is disappointing. To compere, I made 57 qsos in ARI contest in September. On the other hand, I had great fun on 70cm. I am small pistol on that band and it reminds me my very first days of eme, hi hi;) I plan to be qrv in ARRL part 2 on cw random unassisted on both bands. I do hope for better conditions and activity !!! When I compere this result with ARI results it makes me confident that it would be better to have cw and jt contests not at the same weekend - it would improve activity on both modes and... the more acitivity , the more fun;) It make we wonder why I was able to work 12 ARRL stations in Italian Contest on cw and ONLY 3 ARRL stations in ARRL Contest ??? Thanks lot for everybody for qsos, Chris SP7DCS PS.
