--- Původní zpráva --- Datum: 6/9/2005 Od: "Joe Taylor" Předmět: [Moon-net] WSJT developments Dear EME Friends, I have received a number of requests recently for further changes and improvements to the WSJT program, and especially to its JT65 modes and its capabilities at 432 and 1296 MHz EME. With this message I wish to let you know something about my current plans, and at the same time to request additional input and suggestions from users and potential users of WSJT. A major upgrade to the program is under development. It will offer the same protocols or "modes" as WSJT 4.x, and will be backward compatible with those versions. However, it will also provide many new user features. Recent tests have shown that if frequency drifts in the radios can be kept at levels around +/- 5 Hz per minute or better, JT65C works extremely well for 1296 MHz EME. This can mean that stations considerably smaller than the presently required "3-meter dish and 100 W" class should be able to do EME at 23 cm. Similar comments can be made about JT65 (either B or C) for 432 MHz EME. To take best advantage of these opportunities, WSJT will need to be upgraded so that changes in Doppler shift within a single transmission are properly compensated in software. It is my intention that the new WSJT version will have this capability. Other currently planned features include the following: - Multi-threaded program for better sharing of CPU among tasks - Built-in real-time waterfall display - Automatic logging of QSOs, for use in contests - Selectable sound card - Improved control of T/R timing - Compensation for inaccurate sampling rate in sound cards - Optional PTT control via second soundcard output channel - GUI coded in Python/Tkinter, for platform-independent portability - Open source policy for nearly all program code - Relatively easy to port program to Linux or Macintosh I am gradually acquiring the necessary skills to be able to carry out these program changes. I cannot give a reliable estimate of when the new version will be available. Probably not before September, anyway. If you have questions or additional suggestions to make, please feel free to respond either to Moon-Net or to me, off-list. User input has made enormous contributions to the usability of WSJT in the past, and will continue to do so if you send me your good ideas! With best wishes, -- 73, Joe, K1JT _______________________________________________
