Today I finally traced it by using my Funcube Dongle SDR RX. As I have several wireless 433MHz devices associated with a weather station, and a house electricity power monitoring unit, I expected it to be one of those transmitters. However I was wrong. It turns out it is another small weather console that has a single 433MHz external temperature sensor, and it is not the transmitter in the sensor, but the receiver in the console that is making this wideband noise (several tens of MHz wide). If if remove the batteries and reset the receiving console then the noise is continuous until presumably the receiver first picks up a burst from the remote transmitter, then it must sync with its period and only samples every 30 seconds. So just a heads up, avoid the Oregon Scientific Radio Controlled Weather Station BAR888U (433MHz). 73
