Henryk SM0JHF To: Zvonimir Maric "J. Kraft" datum: 19. ožujka 2014. u 15:48A I met Carlos today and talked about the 144 MHz activity. He has never been QRV on 144 MHz. Might be pirate making jokes. Carlos no longer is interested in QSL cards and any incoming cards are answered by a girl at his office. The girl does not know what the figures mean and simply fills in the cards according to the incoming information. When I came to Mindelo first time in November 2000 we were a group of 4. Two hams were from Spain and two from Sweden. One of the Spanish hams was so stupid that he used the call of Carlos D44AC from Canary Islands one day before we arrived here. He was QRV on 50 MHz with this call before Carlos had any antenna, because we four erected the tower and installed the antenna at the QTH of D44AC. I found out this after I returned home because the Internet was not so easily accessible from Cape Verde. The call sign of D44AC is often used before the contests on HF by members of the D4C group. Don't know why. So Carlos is not always receiving the logs for HF bands before and after the major contests. Carlos is not very active. I will try to activate his station from his home in CQ WW WPX contest, at least for some hours. If there is interest in 144 MHz from D4 you might try to get some members of the D4C team interested in this band. The location is good - 750 m a.s.l. and open in all directions. They have a 50 MHz beacon which is turned on when someone is in the building. It will be on at the end of this month as some activity is planned for the last weekend. I am active on 50 MHz - 3.5 MHz with simple wires. I made some DX on 50 MHz and on 3.5 MHz, the location is good for HF. I might come here again and spend more time. ========================================================================= It turned out now that D44AC has a girl who is answering his QSL cards for him without checking any logs and just writing the same on the out going cards. They just collect the Dollars.... D44AC confirmed to me yesterday that HE did NOT make this 2m QSO. But there is still the possibility that someone pirated his callsign and used it in 9A area to make a joke with 9A2KO. 73, Joe CT1HZE http://www.hrvhf.net/index.php/smfforum/index.php?topic=2583.105
