Together with late Giel, ZS6NG they were the first in Africa on 70 and 23 cm EME. We certainly will not forget Peter. Ivo, ZS6AXT Sent: Friday, July 11, 2008 11:09 AM Subject: Peter Carey ZS6JT - SK It is with great regret that I must inform you of the passing of Peter Carey ZS6JT. Peter went SK this morning 11th July in Centurion, after fighting a long illness. He will be missed by his wife Jean, his family, children and grandchildren, and all the colleagues who have known this wonderful man, a great experimenter, technician, operator and award winning radio amateur. I first worked ZE5JJ on 432MHz EME in December 1978 from IO91 in the days before easily available GaAsFETs and PCs. I have very fond memories of being gently chided at that time by Peter during a 14MHz QSO for having the temerity to try to use a yagi antenna system for EME! With a rather better yagi system I later worked Peter as Z25JJ for the first EME QSO from my then new QTH in IO70. Unfortunately, I never managed to make a QSO with Peter using his ZS6JT call. Peter was a true pioneer. Working in the relative isolation of what was then Southern Rhodesia, he had what would still be a world-class system at a time when there were probably less than fifty stations worldwide QRV on 432MHz EME. RIP, Peter. Chris GW4DGU Od: peter blair Komu: Ivo Chladek , Předmět: Re: [Moon-net] Peter Carey ZS6JT - SK Datum: 12.7. 2008, 00:14 - dnes v 00:14 Its very sad to hear of the death of Peter ZS6NG. We first worked on 432 in August 1975 under his call of ZE5JJ and with his 128 element co-linear array and my 5m dish. He then built a dish and we then worked on 1296 with that call and then again of course when he moved to South Africa and became ZS6NG. He was a great guy with the strength of character, determination and skill to overcome many problems and blaze a trail in those early days of EME. My condolences to his family, RIP Peter. Peter G3LTF
