73 Tonda -----Original Message----- From: Alan Devlin [mailto:alandevlin@bigpond.com] Sent: Tuesday, May 23, 2006 6:41 AM To: vladimir.masek@volny.cz Cc: jelinek@ges.cz; ok1vao@post.cz Subject: SUCCESS... latest 5760 EME QSO... Gidday Vlad & your team, well now... I'm a very happy Aussie Amateur... thank you....thank you... thank you !! I just need to confirm that another Aussie Amateur who was building gear a few months back has not beaten me to this FIRST ever VK EME QSO on 5760 Mhz...... At that time he was not actually hearing his echoes due to insufficient RF power... so I'm not sure if he got another Amp etc.... but I will find out & advise. Todays signals from you were a better (louder) for me hence my "O" Report.. but your Circular Pol'n & my Linear (Horiz) Pol'n will have contributed to degraded signals between us... I "worked" on my Transverter last nite and in my testing this morning.... I was seeing another 1 dB of Sun Noise (so now it's almost 13 dB) and the Moon Noise was up slightly from 0.6 dB to about 0.8 dB. This time.. I found you 10 KHz high ... at 0212 hrs UTC. So.. I adjusted my TX IF up for a 5760.060 Khz output. My westerly Elevation was still 26 Degrees so plenty of margin to complete the QSO.. I heard & decoded the Callsigns & your M Report fairly easily this attempt... but I must say... I do not like slow CW.....I learn't my CW at the faster 14 WPM rate... the slow "character" rate from you made it a little difficult for me because I like/prefer the sound of the faster characters sent @ say a 14 WPM rate with longer (than normal) gaps between the actual characters. This gives my brain a bit more time to think/process the character & write it down.... etc. No matter... the main thing is that we have done it !! You bewdy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The weather here was cloudy but fine... I could not see the Moon due to these clouds and it's small illuminated Phase so I tracked it from about 50 Degrees Elevation down to the 26 Degrees mark @ circa 0210 hours when I first heard you. I first heard your M Copy @ 0220 hours... Was my signal that bad ? Hi Hi ? I did have some TX problems though... When I fitted the Transverter back in place.. I decided to test the TX before anything else... I then found that my Output Power was slowly ramping up & down for some unknown reason. This TWTA has been fitted behind my Dish (for 10 Ghz EME) for nearly a year now so I think it may have developed some moisture issues affecting performance. I borrowed my wifes Hair Dryer to warm/dry the inside of the TWTA. Sadly it did not solve the problem so I had to leave AS-IS and hope we could still make the contact. This we did albeit with an M Copy from you but hey - who cares... It's an EME Contact !!!!!!!!! Once again thank you for your effort & that of your team. Oh.. my Grid Locator to work the distance out accurately is QF22ND... QSL Cards will be sent shortly... your preferred address please ? Cheers, Alan - VK3XPD
